At the Cruquius Pumping Station, the largest and best preserved steam pumping station in the world, plans are afoot for the Polder Experience showing how the Dutch, struggling against the sea, managed to carve out a country below sea level. Historical and contemporary water management, as well as the water management of the future are all included in the experience that will take place in the grounds of (new) buildings and an outdoor museum. Hands-on, personal experience is central to this project, not only for Dutch visitors, but also for many foreigners who will be amazed by life at six meters below sea level. Sustainability, particularly future-proof water management, is the obvious perspective to take on the future. XPEX acted as concept developer and planner for administrative, organizational and management aspects.
